Bug? When standing on a tile, you can't fold the tile to your left. You can fold the one to your right. I'm guessing it's because the selector is in the same column as the player even though that column is unaffected.

Adding this one to my collection in hopes it gets expanded someday!

You can't fold across occupied tiles. The tile the player is in is also considered occupied. However, the player can be in the middle of two tiles and both will be considered occupied. I agree that it can be a bit finicky. I'll be reworking that in future versions to make it more intuitive.

I currently have a lot of ideas for the space compression mechanic and am working on a post-jam(and perhaps even a full game). The full version will be a separate game on itch. So in order to be notified when that's released, I recommend following me on itch.

Yes, I get that. I'm not so good at explanations sometimes, here's an image:

The downside is that the full game might be more than I can do but I'm looking forward to trying it!

Thanks!

Thanks for the image. Yes that left marked tile can't be folded since the selector would have to start at one of the columns the player occupies. There is a in-game rule that "you can start folding from an occupied tile". Though laser turrets/flags etc. allow it, the player occupied tiles don't. I had to skip that due to time constraints during the jam.  I will fix that.

I thought that might be how it worked (by where the selector is as opposed to what is chosen) but I also thought it might be a bug.

Sounds like you will be completely reworking the system anyway and this doesn't stop one playing so it's a minor issue.

Thanks again!

Really clever idea, can see how this could be expanded with vertical compression, things that are unaffected, multiple compressions etc. One thing I think would be handy is to reset the previous compression back to it's original position in a single click or key as dragging back and forwards worked but felt like something with no additional benefit.

Again, super cool idea, excited to see where this goes.

Thank you! Yes, I do plan on adding a one click unfold option. Dragging to unfold lets you partially unfold which may be useful in some puzzles. I think it's possible to have both.

+1 to see "one click" unfold option
+1 to see vertical compression

Very interesting puzzle mechanism

Keep up the good work 😊👍
